Scotland Vs France

Now, I have to confess that for me football isn't the most beautiful of games. But last nights victory over France (look away now if you're on a "likely lads") 1 - 0 by Scotland was a joy to behold.

Usually, a Scotland game is a nail biting experience. Even when they lead (a comfortable lead to a Scotland fan would be about 10 - 0), they manage to make everything appear a struggle. But last night they played with a level of confidence that one all too rarely sees from the Scottish national side. That James McFadden took his chance with a 30 yard (successful) attempt on goal must surely, in some significant way, be down to the confidence provided by the focused Scottish defence and the safe pair of hands that is the Scottish goalie Craig Gordon.

Scotland leads France in Group B by 2 points and Italy by 1 point. With three games to go there is still plenty of nail biting to be had, but there is also a sense that Scotland really might just make it this time. Here's hoping.

You can find a match report here (BBC sport); as of yet there's nothing decent on YouTube but try this search in a few hours time and there may be.
