Stripping copper makes beeline to organics

Aberdeen stripper makes headlines

An Aberdeen University student who supplements his grant as a male stripper has been charged with wearing police uniform in a public place (impersonating a policeman). According to BBC Scotland the 24 year old genetics student was arrested after performing a show in the presence of two policewomen on March 17th.

Organics investigated

Organic farming is once again under the microscope [http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/6595801.stm]. There are a great many points that could be made here but I'll stick to just two.

Having conducted a literature review of the comparative benefits of organic vs. conventional Clare Williamson of the BNF is not convinced by the organic food industries claims. The BNF "feel it would be irresponsible to promote organic food over non organic food as being better for you as there is not enough strong evidence," says Williamson of her review.

Note, "there is not enough strong evidence." Not there is no evidence.

Meanwhile Professor Trewevas disputes whether the addition of chemical pesticides and fertilisers are harmful to us or the environment as we consume "huge numbers of natural toxic pesticides" daily. That's as may be but after drinking one or two pints of Black Sheep I don't then go and douse myself in 100% proof industrial alcohol on the basis that having drunk two pints of beer I am suddenly and magically immune to such things.

What's more the use of artificial pesticides has quite clearly devastated native wild life in the UK. Could it be any clearer - pesticides impact in a clearly negative way on the environment.

Anyhow, you're all perfectly capable of making up your mind. But I love organic.

Taiwan latest victim in great honeybee mystery

Taiwan is the latest country to report a sudden mass decline in honeybee numbers. This couldn't have anything to do with the adoption of GM crops by Taiwan?
