Bitter blow for lemon tree

If you've been to an arts event in Aberdeen chances are it was hosted at the Lemon Tree. Sadly the Lemon Tree was forced to close last week after the City's resource management council refused to bridge a funding shortfall at the charitable arts organisation.

While Aberdeen prides itself on the annual International Youth Festival and the growing popularity of the annual Jazz and Beer festivals, sadly the premier alternative arts venue has not been so well supported in recent months.

The Lemon Tree has become synonymous with quality music by established musicians and new talent from far and near. Not to mention theatre, comedy, workshops, and it's social inclusion/outreach programs.

Staff at the Tree have started a campaign to raise emergency funds to keep the venue alive. A message on the campaigns website [http://savethelemontree.org/] read: "The Lemon Tree has provided countless memories for Aberdonians over the years - the events there have been a part of our cultural history and we're trying hard to keep it's work a part of our future."
